You'll recall, faithful readers, that I mentioned Jason Marquis as "the" guy the Nats should pursue when the team said back in August it was going to go after a veteran free agent pitcher.
Well, either they have or haven't agreed to terms with him, depending on which report on MASNSports.com is accurate. (see below for update, it seems the deal is done)

MASNsports.com has learned that the Nationals will sign starting pitcher Jason Marquis. The 31-year-old starter went 15-13 with a 4.04 ERA with the Rockies last season before becoming a free agent.

There are reports that the Nationals and free agent right-hander Jason Marquis have come to terms on a contract, but my own sources say it's not yet a done deal - but very, very close.
Hmmm. The "reports" Wood mentions are from the same site for which he's writing. I haven't seen it anywhere else.
Sounds like it WILL happen though, and I guess we'll know soon enough. The Nationals Journal I just viewed says it is all over but the shouting (and physical), two years for $15 mil.
UDPATE - All hands are on the same wheel at MASNSports.com now - Wood says the deal is done and Marquis will be introduced tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.

I like the signing from the on the field perspective. He seems like the veteran innings-eater we all think the team needs. What's the word on the business end of things? Any concern about a rotation dominated by finesse/control guys? Would love to see somebody with some real heat (Strasburb?)to provide a counter balance.
Well, I think Strasburg and Z-nn provide that to some extent. Detwiler's stuff can move a little bit, too.
I think for the stage the team is at now, he's an awfully good fit. Perfect? No. But a nice history of winning games and being a part of winning teams.
The Washington Times' blog looked at the rotation yesterday. I can live with Lannan/Marquis/Olsen/Detwiler/Someone this year - with Strasburg maybe moving into the "someone" slot this coming year.
In 2011, it could be really good if Strasburg is close to what's been advertised and Z-nn recovers according to plan. Strasburg/Z-nn/Lannan/Marquis/Detwiler. I'll take that.
