The limo never came and I demand an explanation. We did manage to get up there in record time. Less than two hours door to door and it has never taken us less than 2:20 before. Ate a wonderful restaurant called Belga after the game, on 8th a couple blocks on the other side of the highway. Made it back home in about two hours. For once, a smooth trip two ways.
Still would have preferred a town car.
Walk offs never get old, though I hated to see Capps' streak end. Oh well, it couldn't last forever. We saw three walk offs in 2008 - Zimmerman, Nieves (who?) and Belliard - but none last year.
Love a walk off.
I thought I noticed something as Willingham rounded the bases and I checked the video when I got home. Check for yourself here. Who is that Oriole and why is he kicking dirt on Willingham. It's about 17 seconds in.
This was a little bit, just a smidge, of a bittersweet walk off. I think I mentioned on here before that I know Cla Meredith. He's from Richmond (still lives here), went to VCU. His father used to teach My Son The Braves Fan in middle school. Great family and Cla is about as fine a young man as you could want to meet and I felt for him as he walked off.
I still love that winning record going onto the road trip.
One question - when did Mike Morse become Michael Morse? OK, another queston - why was he batting in place of Roger (only three RBI to that point) Bernadina? OK, ANOTHER question - is he really going to be the backup catcher or just an emergency catcher seeing as how Pudge isn't on the flight?
We'll talk more about all that later. I have a lot to say this week but right now I want to go celebrate perfection. And figure out why my ride never arrived.

it was shortstop Julio Lugo. and he definitely made a discernable kicking motion after changing his stride. very interesting.
I thought for a while I was nuts. My brother mentioned he saw something.
Lugo. Wow. If you'd told me he'd be the guy to mess up Capps' perfection, I would have bet the ranch against.
Morse apparently became Michael when he came back off the DL and rejoined the Nats. I don't recall them calling him Michael on the Strasburg Syracuse game telecasts. He also cut off all his long hair, although you don't really notice that since he's got a cap or helmet on all the time.
I guess he figured Mike didn't sound like enough of a baseball player name. Although you have to wonder why he switched to Michael and not Mickey. That's a name that has a real baseball pedigree. Mickey Mantle, Mickey Cochrane, Mickey Lolich, etc. Maybe because he's just a kid he's never heard of those guys, and the only Mickey he knows is Mickey Mouse.
But Michael? Are there any great ballplayers who were called Michael?
As others before me have said, it was Julio (Did he just bloop a hit to tie the game?) Lugo. He has always been a adequate SS not too great of a hitter. Does not have a history of being classless.
Mike, do you think he needs to be given a "shave", ala Sal "The Barber" Maglie, by one our pitchers in June?
Good question, I don't know. Not so sure about classless - didn't he have some issue with his wife when he was in Houston?
I also don't know his history with Willingham. Do they have one? Are they buds? Was he ribbing him as he did it? It wasn't a vicious or hard kick so it may have been all in fun between friends.
I'm still shocked he got that hit. I'll take my chances with Capps v. Lugo eight days a week. As Tommy Lasorda said, I'd send a limo to pick him up (there I go with limos again)
Check out Capitol Punishment (www.dcbb.blogspot.com) - I think Chris has a link to the Houston incident.
Don't know how to do links in here so here's the article cut and pasted - from 2003:
Astros shortstop Julio Lugo was arrested and charged with hitting his wife in the face and slamming her head on a car hood before a game.
Lugo was freed on $50,000 bond Thursday after spending the night in jail. She was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released.
Mabel Lugo said she was attacked by her husband Wednesday afternoon before Houston's home loss to the Atlanta Braves, Houston police spokeswoman Silvia Trevino said Thursday.
Astros spokesman Warren Miller said the team was trying to gather all the facts.
The 27-year-old infielder was arrested at Minute Maid Park after the 11-1 loss Wednesday …
