Fun with numbers. 300

For the last time in my life, I saw a 300-game winner. I'm sure there will be another one eventually but I suspect it will be a long, long time.

I would have given up my eyewitness to history claim, however, to see Drama Queen the Umpire make the correct call on Adam Dunn in the eighth.
Yes, I'm biased. My Son the Braves Fan is not. He was watching at home and sent a text right away - horrible call, brutal call, pitch was low.
What really bothered me was Drama Queen waiting about a week to make the call. You want to butcher a pitch, fine. Do it. Don't primp for the camera.

There's a thread on Johnson on an online forum I participate in at www.sportsjournalists.com and many there thought the pitch was definitely a ball.

Three hundred is a lot of wins. Fifteen seasons of 20 victories? Wow. Here's a fun fact about 300 - Randy Johnson now has two more victories than the Nationals have in their four-plus seasons in Washington.
Check my math with me: 81+71+73+59+14 = 298. Yep, my computer calculator says it is correct.

Somehow, when the Nats get No. 300 in 2-3 weeks, I don't think there will be as much of a fuss. Today's game - guess the date they win No. 300: I have June 21.

You're predicting that it's going to take until June 21 to get today's game in? OMG if it doesn't quit raining here before then we'll all be fighting for space on the ark, and the big question will be does the "two of each species" rule mean that we have to let Screech and Clint get on board, or can we leave them to drown?

But come to think of it, a judicious application of that rule would have prevented the corner outfield logjam on this team, wouldn't it?

Johnson's feat is that much more impressive considering he didn't win his 100th game until age 31.

still, i wish he'd done this next week.

Suppose the ump made the right call?
How would you like to be the pitcher who blew THAT save? Especially by walking in a run.
My hat is still wet, by the way.

He'd have had Joel Hanrahan in the ballpark to form a support group.

It was worth waiting three hours in the rain Wednesday, then braving it again Thursday. Also, I am of the mind that we will never see another 300 game winner, with the way pitchers are used today, etc.
